Knock, Knock: We’re Here!
CWA joins Michele Bachmann's 'House Call' on Congress
By Rebekah Tooley
November 2009
Today marked the culmination of months of lobbying and petitioning up on Capitol Hill. Concerned Women for America (CWA) joined thousands of people at Representative Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minnesota) rally on the Hill and afterwards walked to the House office buildings, urging Representatives to vote “no” to the “Crown Jewel of Socialism,” Nancy Pelosi’s health care bill.
Bachmann urged Americans to come to Washington and “find members of Congress, look at the whites of their eyes and say, ‘Don’t take away my health care.’”
After Fox News’ Hannity aired Rep. Michele Bachmann’s urgent invitation to meet on the steps of the Capitol, CWA proceeded to invite people to join us.
“It was thrilling to see thousands of people at the Capitol from around the country,” said CWA’s President, Wendy Wright. “All had come with less than a week’s notice because they understand our country faces a dire threat.”
“One week prior, Nancy Pelosi had unveiled her monstrous bill at the same place, but with much less enthusiasm. At her press conference, barricades were erected to keep the public away. (Perhaps she was afraid a town hall meeting would break out.) In contrast to today’s rally, Pelosi’s drew only about 40 people, most of them protesting against her plan.”
We came together because if we don’t act now, we will lose the opportunity to take action in the future.
CWA invited folks to our downtown D.C. office before the rally. Wendy Wright prepared them on how to lobby after the rally with materials compiled by CWA’s Legislative Department.
During the past 12 months, our country has been drastically imposed upon by a vigorous liberal agenda. We all have been shocked at how quickly a handful of people can attempt major change, and as a result we have been challenged to step up and make our voices heard. We want to ensure that these impositions won’t make America a place that is foreign to liberty and justice — a place where everyone is provided health care, but no one is well — a place where freedom has been taken away, and a socialist agenda has stealthily replaced it.
The reality is that change — the wrong kind — is right around the corner if we don’t act now!
Congress has a health care bill in their hands — all 2,000 pages of it — that will be rushed through in a matter of days. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi expects congressmen to pass the massive bill quickly, making it one step closer to becoming law. This would socialize medicine. For more information on what this would mean, go to CWA’s What’s Wrong with ObamaCare?
You might be wondering what you can do or how you can stop this bill. Contact your Representatives and urge them to vote against the bill. Visit your Representative’s district office and urge them to oppose the health care bill. Pray for God to have mercy on our country and allow this bill to fizzle. You are the person behind the vote. So, voter, I pose this question: What will you do to stop the government takeover of our health care?
