Please call your senators today at 202-224-3121 and urge them to oppose the Stimulus Package. The Stimulus Package is a pork-laden bill that will not jump start our economy but will instead burden American families with massive debt in the future. This Stimulus Package is a boondoggle to liberals, pure and simple. Among some of the more egregious provisions is $1,000,000,000 to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for activities related to preventable diseases ($400,000,000 to be transferred to the CDC for testing and prevention of HIV and STD infections) and $400,000,000 to the CDC for "Healthy Communities" programs. In the past, such funds have been used for HIV screenings at transgender beauty pageants and other objectionable programs. There is nothing in this bill to prevent these funds from going towards similar activities. Also included in this legislation is $3,500,000,000 for "green schools" funding to modernize, renovate or repair higher education facilities. However, there are strings attached which restrict any funding provided under the bill from going to higher education institutions "in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission" - effectively restricting any private or religious school from receiving any funding under this bill. The bill also affirmatively excludes funds for higher education institutions used for "sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity." Special interest spending is simply not going to stimulate the economy. American families are tightening their belts to weather the economic downturn, yet this bill will place even more financial burden onto their backs. It increases wasteful spending that you and I - and the next generation - will have to pay. Sincerely,
