Dear Friends,
Your Senators and
Representatives are home in their districts this week. Please take this
opportunity to meet with your legislators to address several "hot" legislative
items:
-
Last week, the Senate voted
75-22 on an emergency war funding bill which included a contentious provision to
make it cheaper and easier for Planned Parenthood to distribute controversial
drugs including Plan B which can act as an abortifacient. The liberal House
Leadership will schedule a House vote on this bill when they return next week.
Please call or visit your Representative while he/she is home in the district
and urge them to remove the pernicious provision to line Planned Parenthood's
coffers. Please ask them to send President Bush a war funding bill that provides
monies solely for our military.
-
Senator Carl Levin
(D-Michigan) may try an underhanded way to push the homosexual agenda into a
bill aimed at protecting our national sovereignty. There is considerable
evidence that Senator Levin plans to attach a "hate crimes" amendment to the
Defense Authorization that is likely to be considered by the Senate after the
Memorial Day recess in the next couple of weeks.
This "hate crimes"
amendment, like the controversial Planned Parenthood provision, is simply a
tactic employed by the liberal Democrat leadership to force President Bush to
veto legislation that is crucial to our military. Please call or visit your
Senators while they are home in their states and ask them to oppose a "hate
crimes" amendment to the Defense Authorization bill.
-
Recently, the House
Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a hearing on abstinence education
titled "Domestic Abstinence-Only Programs: Assessing the Evidence." This hearing
was overwhelmingly stacked with witnesses against abstinence education. On the
main panel, which included seven witnesses, only one had a pro-abstinence
message.
The liberal Democratic
leadership in the House is seeking to use this hearing as a springboard to
eliminate abstinence education funding. Instead of fully reauthorizing Title V
Abstinence Education by the June 30 deadline, these liberals want to send block
grants to the states so that the states can determine how they will use the
funds. They believe the majority of states will chose comprehensive sex
education. Please call or visit your Representative and Senators while they are
in the districts and ask them to fully reauthorize Title V with Transitional
Medical Assistance (TMA) before the June 30 deadline.
-
The obstruction of President
Bush's judicial nominees continues in the U.S. Senate. Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid (D-Nevada) recognized back in April that the Democratic leadership
needed "to make more progress on" circuit court nominations, and he promised to
confirmed three circuit court nominees by the Memorial Day recess. Well,
Memorial Day has come and gone, and Sen. Reid and the Democratic Leadership
confirmed only one nominee before the Senate recess. Please meet with
your Senators while they are home in their states and ask them to do everything
in their power to confirm President Bush's judicial nominees.

Wendy
