The Real Winner of the "First 100 Hours"
By Eva Arlia
May 2007

What was accomplished in the “first 100 hours” of the 110th Congress?  From the high-handed words of “congressional revolution” and “overhaul of corruption,” you would think that national struggles have ceased to exist.  Instead, while political hype roars at the forefront, liberals in Congress such as Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) and Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) have left the back door open for special interests and the homosexual agenda to slip in.  Now that they’ve gotten their foot in the door, homosexual activists have taken every opportunity to launch an assault on traditional values and our God-given rights of freedom of speech and religion.

It is not new for liberal Members of Congress to actively promote the homosexual agenda, but a key difference in the last four months is that a shift in the balance of power has given liberals the political power to pass their legislation.  Three especially destructive bills have been introduced since January, and without a groundswell of support for righteousness and Biblical principles, the homosexual agenda will continue to creep forward and erode our constitutional freedoms.

H.R. 1592:  The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007.  This bill would create a new class of protection for homosexuals and cross-dressers in the Federal Code under the guise of “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” respectively. Crimes that are deemed to be “motivated by prejudice based on the actual or perceived … sexual orientation, gender identity … of the victim” would be given greater priority — and their investigations given more resources — than the exact same crime committed against a child.

Mary Stachowicz of Chicago, Illinois, a wife and mother of four, was brutally murdered by a homosexual man on November 13, 2002.  Stachowicz was a devout Catholic woman who witnessed regularly to Nicholas Gutierrez, who lived in an apartment above the Sikorski Funeral Home where she worked.  He brutally beat and killed Stachowicz in a fit of rage after she lectured him on his lifestyle, stuffing her body into a crawl space under the floor of his apartment until his confession two days later.

Under H.R. 1592, if a homosexual suffered the same fate as Stachowicz, the murderer would be prosecuted under harsher terms and perhaps even more swiftly than any other criminals. The 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution already affords equal protection to every citizen under the law.  This unnecessary and politically-motivated bill only serves to create second-class citizens.

UPDATE: H.R. 1592 passed the House on May 3 by a vote of 237-180. Due to the concern of thousands of citizens across the country on this destructive legislation, the White House issued a Statement of Administrative Policy (SAP) on "hate crimes" on the same day, stating that H.R. 1592 is "unnecessary and constitutionally questionable." It is thus recommended that the President veto the bill should it reach his desk.

ACTION: There is still more to do! This legislation is now on its way to the Senate as S. 1105. Urge your Senator to vote "NO" on "hate crimes" legislation! If this bill is stopped in the Senate, the issue of a presidential veto will become moot.

Call President Bush and thank him for his public stance on "hate crimes" and also ask him to veto any "Hate Crime" legislation sent to him by Congress.

H.R. 2015: Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007 (ENDA).  Introduced by openly-gay Rep. Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts), ENDA is another bill supposedly aimed at “equality.”  However, it is nothing more than a “gay” power grab and a dangerous threat to our First Amendment rights of freedom of speech, religion and association. ENDA prohibits businesses or organizations from discriminating based on “sexual orientation,” grossly distorting civil rights by injecting bisexuality and cross-dressing among other terms which are protected under federal law.

Sexual temptations thus become a source of material for federal lawsuits.  The law properly deals with actions, not beliefs.  ENDA creates a new class based on the fuzzy grounds of perception and intention.  This is far removed from laws designed to end racial discrimination.  Race is not only evident, it has no moral aspect.  Sexual behavior, however, is fraught with moral consequences.

Despite ENDA’s religious exemption, certain religious and charitable organizations could still find their tax-exempt status in danger unless they provide special advantages for homosexuals.  Businesses owned by devout Christians, Jews and Muslims would be forced to adopt a view of human sexuality at odds with that taught by their faiths.

H.R. 808: Department of Peace and Nonviolence Act.  This bill, introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), has received increasing attention in Congress due to the discontent over the war in Iraq.  Rep. Kucinich’s intention of a Cabinet-level Department of Peace could have grave consequences due to its murky language. Permeated with terms such as “expand[ing] human rights,” “celebrating diversity” and “promoting tolerance,” this bill has the makings of a slippery slope which would further the homosexual agenda.  Included in the organization of the Department would be an Office of Peace Education, charged with preaching these messages to students as young as kindergarten.

According to Matt Barber, Policy Director for Cultural Issues of Concerned Women for America, “With liberals in control of Congress, the militant homosexual lobby has a ‘man on the inside,’ so to speak.  Pelosi, Kennedy and crew have already eagerly begun checking off items on the ‘gay’ wish list.  ‘Hate crimes’ – check.  ENDA – check.  Muzzle those obnoxious Christians – check.  We can only hope and pray that President Bush will provide a check of his own by vetoing each and every one of these radical pro-homosexual bills should they land on his desk.  If you’re a Christian or a conservative who once thought you’d make a statement by staying home during an election, this should open your eyes.  Elections do matter.  Fail to vote at your own peril.”
