Dear Concerned Friend,

We have one final chance to overcome a ruling made by a handful of liberal judges that legalized "gay marriage" in California.

We can — and we must-add an amendment to the state constitution that defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman. If we don't, this ruling will affect every state in the union.

Let me explain. This ruling allows people from all states to come to California and marry. Homosexual couples will demand that other states then recognize that "marriage" as legal — regardless of whether or not same-sex "marriage" is lawful in their state!

This is not just a California problem … this is a national problem!

Can you see the legal battles that will ensue if this ruling stands? Homosexual couples from all over the nation will come to be married, and then go home and demand that their state recognize their union.

Lawsuits will be filed across the nation against people who do not agree with same sex "marriage" … and as you have seen, some judges simply cannot be trusted to uphold the Constitution of the United States. They abuse their authority to change our nation, forcing their liberal agenda on us all.

So what would this mean to your everyday life? There are so many examples, but here are two for you to consider:

  • In Massachusetts, Catholic Charities refused to place children in the homes of same-sex couples and it became a battle in the state legislature. They lost. As a result, the ministry decided to stop offering adoption services, a terrible loss for couples and babies across the Commonwealth.
  • A same-sex couple in New Mexico asked a photographer to shoot their "commitment ceremony." The photographer — a dedicated Christian named Elaine Huguenin — declined, stating it violated her personal religious beliefs. The couple sued and the photographer was found guilty of discrimination and ordered to pay the lesbian couple's legal fees of $6,000. It is now under appeal.

These are just two of the stories that the left-leaning National Public Radio chronicled in an article called "Gay Rights, Religious Liberties: A Three-Act Story" by Barbara Bradley Hagerty.

It began: "As gay couples in California head to the courthouse … to get legally married, there are signs of a coming storm. Two titanic legal principles are crashing on the steps of the church, synagogue and mosque: equal treatment for same-sex couples on one hand and the freedom to exercise religious beliefs on the other."

Further on in the article, she makes a frightening statement: "As states have legalized same-sex partnerships, the rights of gay couples have consistently trumped the rights of religious groups."

We must do everything in our power to rally Christians all over California to vote in November to add an amendment to their state constitution to uphold marriage as the union of one man and one woman. A recent poll shows that 51% of voters oppose the amendment!

Will you help me?

WHO DO YOU KNOW IN CALIFORNIA? We have written a letter for you to send to them that urges them to get out and vote, educates them on the issue, and challenges them to register in time if they have not done so. You can download the letter to print and mail to your friends, or forward it in an email. You can influence your friends more than anyone else-will you do it?

SEND A LETTER TO THE EDITOR-We also have sample letters that you can download, edit, and send to one or more newspapers in California. You can also have your friends send letters by directing them to www.cwalac.org/EditorLetters. I urge you to do this and help us get the word out.

PRAY-Our nation is under attack from so many angles, including same-sex "marriage." This is a time when we must be serious about getting before the face of God, to fast and to pray for America. Will you do that?

GIVE A GENEROUS GIFT-Years ago, there were many organizations that helped usher Ronald Reagan into the White House and the conservative values he represented. Today, we fight a different battle. The enemy is larger, more moneyed, and more liberal than ever before.

We have to get the word out about the dangers of this amendment failing in California. Mass communication is very expensive — but we have to fight this battle and that is the only way to do it.

Will you help us? Thank you for caring, for giving, for praying and for doing.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Beverly LaHaye
Founder and Chairman

P.S. Please don't put this aside as a problem for a single state-it is far greater than that! Please be as generous — and as quick — as you can with your gift of support. Thank you!
