Dear Friends,
Urgent Action: The Senate will vote this week on her nomination.
A foundational principle of the United States is equal justice under the law. Judge Sotomayor's belief that judges make policy and can "choose facts" based on their prejudices undermines the concept of the rule of law. Her pattern of decisions, released in terse rulings with no substantiation, empowering government over individuals and certain ethnic groups over others is contrary to America's system of equal justice.
Judicial nominations affect all the issues Concerned Women for America focuses on: family, sanctity of human life, education, pornography, religious liberty and national sovereignty. Therefore, we consider it a priority to oppose this nomination!
The debate on Judge Sotomayor has served to highlight the importance of a judge following the laws and the Constitution of the United States, instead of concocting a "living" constitution that means whatever a judge wants it to mean. This serves as a clear standard for future judicial nominees.
Please call your Senators and urge them to vote against Judge Sotomayor's confirmation. Senators Voinovich (R-Ohio), Murkowski (R-Alaska), Enzi (R-Wyoming), and Barasso (R-Wyoming) especially need to hear from you.
You can contact your Senators by calling the Congressional switchboard at (202)224-3121.
Sincerely,
The Legislative Department
