Dear Friends,

On Wednesday, the House will vote on the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, which undercuts longstanding federal policies and undermines family values that are the backbone of this country. Please urge your Representative to oppose this legislation today!

The Foreign Relations Authorization Act would create a new "Office for Global Women's Issues" within the State Department to be headed by a new Ambassador-at-Large who reports directly to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and is to "coordinate efforts of the U.S. Government regarding gender integration and women's empowerment in U.S. foreign policy." This legislation would require that programs integrate reproductive rights and refer for family planning services, which would result in funding international abortion organizations.

Essentially, this legislation appears to equate women's rights with abortion rights. This concern is heightened by the recent testimony of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when she said that the Administration would protect women's rights to reproductive health care and that "reproductive health includes access to abortion."

Additionally, this legislation would require the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor to investigate violence "based on actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity." The Bureau should be concerned about human rights for everyone.

It is particularly troubling that the Foreign Relations Authorization Act does not define or limit "sexual orientation" or "gender identity." This could open the door to radical sexual agendas being promoted by the United States and through all diplomatic relations. It would also require a government employee to determine the feelings and motives of another individual, which is totally beyond their ability since an individual's perception is wholly subjective.

Action: Please call your Representative today at 202-225-3121 and ask him/her to oppose this bad legislation!

Thank you,

Wendy Wright
President
