Dear Friends,

We need your help now! On Wednesday, May 20, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will consider the Foreign Relations Authorization Act (H.R. 2410). This legislation has provisions which undermine federal policies concerning domestic partner benefits and would promote legalizing abortion overseas.

The Foreign Relations Authorization Act would provide benefits to same-sex domestic partners of Foreign Service members and Peace Corps volunteers. Federal funds should not be used to elevate relationships outside of marriage with that of a binding legal marriage which provides unique benefits to individuals and society that cannot be replicated by any other living arrangement.

This legislation also requires the U.S. government to track violence in other countries that is "based on actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity." Essentially, a government employee would need to determine the feelings and motives of another individual which is totally beyond their ability.

Finally, the Foreign Relations Authorization Act would create an Office for Global Women's Issues that would be responsible for "activities, policies, programs, and funding relating to gender integration and women's empowerment internationally." This legislation would require that programs integrate reproductive rights and refer for family planning services which would result in funding international abortion organizations. Essentially, this legislation equates women's rights with abortion rights.

ACTION: Please call the following Members of the Foreign Relations Committee at 202-225-3121 and ask them to oppose this legislation as drafted.
