Dear Friends,
We need your help now to ensure that President Obama's policies don't incentivize the creation and destruction of human embryos. Please file your comments with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by May 26.
On March 9, President Obama issued an executive order to use taxpayer money to expand outdated and destructive human embryonic stem cell research (ESCR). His order, which placed politics above ethics, called on NIH to establish guidelines for this inexcusable and inhumane research.
The NIH published draft guidelines to implement the President's policy on April 23. The proposed guidelines fund research on "leftover" embryos that were created for in vitro fertilization. At this point, they will not fund research on embryos derived from cloning or embryos specifically created for research purposes.
However Representatives Diana DeGette (D-Colorado) and Michael Castle (R-Delaware) intend to reintroduce legislation to "promote all forms of ethical stem cell research," which includes cloning and creating embryos solely for destruction.
Despite the millions of dollars spent on destructive embryonic stem cell research in California, England and elsewhere, the results have been abject failure because embryonic stem cells tend to become deadly tumors. Science has surpassed this unethical research, producing astonishing advances with adult stem cells and discovering ways to make embryonic-like stem cells without killing anyone. Alternatives to embryonic stem cells are more efficient, effective, and are actually treating patients.
Action:
- File comments with NIH to oppose destructive ESCR. Click here for a sample letter.
- Call your Representative at 202-225-3121 and ask him/her to oppose the DeGette/Castle ESCR legislation.
Thank you for your prayers and action,

Wendy Wright
President
