Dear Friends,

The high price of gas carries a national security risk and is taking a toll on American families. We are funding both sides in the war on terror. With gas prices at an all-time high, we are transferring billions of dollars to hostile and unstable regimes that fund terrorist organizations and would like to see us weakened economically. There is no precedent for winning a war while funding your enemies.

Despite tremendous public pressure, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid refuse to allow energy independence. Even more troubling, each day America dawdles we become more dependent on foreign oil suppliers.

In an unprecedented event, 99 House Republicans have come to the floor of Congress during their summer vacations to urge Nancy Pelosi to make this country energy independent! You, too, can participate in this historic call-to-arms. Come sit on the House floor with Members of Congress between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and listen to impassioned speeches. If you haven't been to the floor for the revolt yet, it truly is inspiring. And, if you have already been, come again!

The best way to get into the Capitol is to come to the south entrance and say you have an appointment in H-307 (the Whip's Office) with Ashley Hoy (ashley.hoy@mail.house.gov) and then proceed to H-307 for access to the floor. Contact Ashley if you have any problems.

This debate could determine whether our country will pursue energy independence, rather than allow rising oil prices to cause families and schools to cut back, as our country lines the pockets of state sponsors of Islamic terrorists.

In the Senate, 36 Republicans have signed a letter to declare October 1 as American Energy Freedom Day, and to "actively oppose" any attempt to extend bans on drilling beyond their expiration at the end of September. In just 50 days, we could begin to secure our freedom from foreign energy resources and protect American families!

Action Items:

  1. Call Representative Pelosi at 415-556-4862 and urge her to keep her word to allow a vote that would ensure our national security by making America more energy independent.
  2. Call the Republican Senators listed below at 202-224-3121 and ask them to sign onto Senator Jim DeMint's (R-South Carolina) letter to Senators Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) that allows for American energy freedom.

Senator Saxby Chambliss
Senator Norm Coleman
Senator Susan Collins
Senator Bob Corker
Senator Elizabeth Dole
Senator Jon Kyl
Senator John McCain
Senator Chuck Hagel
Senator Mitch McConnell
Senator Gordon Smith
Senator Olympia Snowe
Senator Arlen Specter
Senator John Thune

Sincerely,

Wendy Wright
President
