Dear Friends,

I've got two key action items to share with you. We've just learned some good news on abstinence funding that calls for quick action today. And, I've got an update on our Day of Prayer and Fasting for Marriage with some wonderful ideas from our members.

Abstinence Education Funding

Title V abstinence education funding may receive "new life"! Title V has only been reauthorized until June 30. However, Concerned Women for America (CWA) has just learned that both Democrats and Republicans have included provisions to fully reauthorize Title V and Transitional Medical Assistance (TMA) in a must-pass bill to fix Medicare.

Both draft versions currently provide an 18-month extension for Title V, maintain the definitions for abstinence education, and link Title V and TMA, which is crucial to keeping abstinence in the bill.

While this is great news for abstinence education, we cannot rest on our laurels. Please call Senators Max Baucus (D-Montana) at 202-224-2651 and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) at 202-224-3744 and thank them for including Title V and TMA in the bill to fix Medicare. Please ask them to do everything in their power to ensure that these provisions are both included in the final bill that will be voted on by the Senate. If you prefer to e-mail Senators Baucus and Grassley, please click here.

Day of Prayer for Marriage, June 17

Homosexual activists are pressuring California officials to start issuing marriage licenses for same-sex couples earlier than June 17. Jurisdictions across the state could cave in to demands that county clerks be forced to work overtime, opening their doors after hours and issuing those licenses at 5:01 p.m. on June 16! There are a number of resources on CWA's website that explain the dangers of this court decision to marriage nationwide.

With that deadline moving up, the Lord is leading His people to fervent prayer. Here at CWA, we are hearing from members across the nation who plan to begin prayer and fasting efforts earlier than CWA's original call to pray on June 17. Some are being led to gather as families at 5:00 p.m. on June 16.

One of our friends in a small town in West Virginia plan to begin a Jericho-style prayer walk and solemn assembly around their local courthouse on Sunday morning (Father's Day, June 15) and continue until the evening of June 16. And there are others - individual men and women of God who are answering the Lord's call on their own hearts to seek Him.

I am excited! While we are quite possibly in our nation's darkest hour in the battle to save traditional marriage, the Lord is moving among His own! I encourage you to follow the Lord's tug on your own heart.

Maybe you can hold a prayer walk similar to the one our friends in West Virginia are planning. Let your pastor and church friends know of your plans, and watch the Lord work in their hearts! Just like the great revivals of the past, I see this time not as a planned event, but as the hand of God moving across this nation. I urge you to join this movement today by seeking God's face right where you are and moving as He leads you.

Now is the time to pray for marriage. Today is the day to fervently seek revival for a fallen nation.

Sincerely,

Wendy Wright
