Your Action Needed on Three Items

December 11, 2007
Dear Friends,

The Christmas season is fully upon us, a time when Christians throughout the world reflect on the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:20-21, NKJV)

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:8-11)

Yet, with the dictates of political correctness at the helm, Christians are pressured to set aside their beliefs so that other Americans will not be offended. People all over the country pay lip service to the "winter holidays" because they are too scared to recognize Jesus Christ.

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is not bowing to this pressure. He has introduced a resolution, H. Res. 847, to recognize the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith to the foundation of this great country. The House will consider his resolution on Tuesday, December 11. Please call your Rep. today at 202-225-3121 and ask him to support the Christmas Resolution!

It is also fitting during this Christmas season to remember Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Illinois), a pro-life crusader who was laid to rest last Friday, December 7. Rep. Hyde dedicated his career, his life and his heart to protecting those who lacked the ability to protect themselves. Rep. Hyde will best be remembered for his monumental "Hyde Amendment." That law, passed in 1976, was the first piece of pro-life legislation to rein in Roe v. Wade by banning the use of tax dollars to pay for abortions.

Rep. Hyde was truly a defender of life. He was a statesman who could change hearts and minds about the importance of life. Because of him, countless people are alive. To celebrate Rep. Hyde's life, Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Illinois) introduced a resolution, H. Res. 843, to honor this great man. Please call your Rep. at 202-225-3121 and ask him to recognize Rep. Hyde's many leadership contributions by supporting H. Res. 843.

On Thursday, December 13, the Energy and Commerce Committee will consider H.R. 1328, the Indian Health Care Improvement Act. Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-Pennsylvania) will offer an amendment to codify a longstanding policy against funding abortions through the Indian Health Service, except for life, rape or incest. This language is based on the Hyde Amendment which restricts federal funding of abortions in the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill. Because the Indian Health Services was funded through a separate Interior Appropriations bill, abortions were still funded until President Reagan stopped the practice. Reagan's policy, which ended federal funding of abortions through Indian Health Services, has not yet been made permanent. Rep. Pitts' amendment will ensure that this policy would be codified. If your Rep. is listed below, please call him at 202-225-3121 and urge him to support the Pitts Amendment:

Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Michigan)
Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pennsylvania)
Rep. Mike Ross (D-Arkansas)
Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah)
Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-North Carolina)
Rep. Charlie Melancon (D-Louisiana)
Rep. John Barrow (D-Georgia)
Rep. Baron Hill (D-Indiana)
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas)
Rep. Fred Upton (R-Michigan)
Rep. Heather Wilson (R-New Mexico)
Rep. Vito Fossella (R-New York)
Rep. Mary Bono (R-California)
Rep. Greg Walden (R-Oregon)

Sincerely,

Wendy Wright
President
