Homosexual activists are one big step closer to getting their legislative agenda passed since the liberals hijacked Congress this year. Later this week, the House will vote on H.R. 1592, The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

This dangerous legislation grants the federal government new, sweeping and unprecedented power. The 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution guarantees "equal protection under the law" for all citizens - regardless of their sexual preference. "Hate crimes" legislation flies in the face of the 14th Amendment. Such legislation would require the government to invest more resources in the investigation and prosecution of crimes against homosexuals than it would against other victims.

Federal "hate crimes" legislation also usurps power from the states and thus violates the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. This bill, as drafted, would encourage the Department of Justice to prosecute a crime as a "hate crime" even if a state does not choose to prosecute the crime as a "hate crime." If the Department of Justice doesn't like a verdict in a state case, then they would also have the right to try the case again as a federal "hate crime."

"Hate crimes" laws place us on a slippery slope toward religious persecution. These laws are already being employed as a tool in Brazil, Europe, Canada - and even right here in America - to intimidate and silence people who honor natural human sexuality and who value the sanctity of marriage as between one man and one woman. If you speak out against homosexual behavior, then you are somehow guilty of "hate speech" under the entirely subjective application of similar "hate crimes" laws.

Please call your Representative now at 202-225-3121 and urge him/her to oppose H.R. 1592.
