We are writing to urge you to take speedy action today to contact your senators and urge them to vote YES on "Amendment 20." The amendment would strike dangerous language about "grassroots lobby reform" from the overall lobby reform bill, S.1. Barely a week into the first session of the 110th Congress, grassroots groups are being unconstitutionally and unfairly swept up in the net of a "lobby reform" reform bill (S.1) in the Senate. A dangerous provision buried in this bill (found in "section 220") would place severe registration and reporting requirements on grassroots organizations just like Concerned Women for America (CWA) and would make it far more difficult for groups like CWA to mobilize grassroots campaigns in the future. In effect, this provision tries to silence groups like CWA and strikes at the very core of what you do as citizen activists. But we have a chance to kill the "grassroots lobbying" provision! Senator Bennett (R-Utah) introduced an amendment to S.1 ("Amendment 20") to strip the harmful provisions out of the bill. Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) joined Senator Bennett as a cosponsor of this amendment. Again, if the grassroots lobbying provision passes, it will be much more difficult for us to mobilize grassroots campaigns in the future, one of the key reasons you have asked to be on CWA's alert email list. The only way to kill the grassroots provision is to create one of the largest surges of grassroots support we've mounted in a long time. Essentially, this is a fight to make sure that we can continue fighting for family values. Capitol Hill must be flooded with phone calls and emails. Action Items:
Sincerely,
Concerned Women for America P.S. Thank you again for considering CWA for your strategic financial support. With you, we're fighting on key issues like abstinence, pornography and abortion. We need you. Please help today by going to http://www.cwfa.org/support_cwa.asp and entering your most generous donation.
