Your action is needed immediately to call on Senate Democrats to stop their partisan politics and allow the Child Custody Protection Act (CCPA), S. 403, to move to conference! The CCPA passed overwhelmingly in the House and the Senate but cannot move to the President's desk for signing until final language has been worked out in a House-Senate conference. The CCPA, if enacted, would make it a criminal offense to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion in order to avoid the parental consent or notification law in the minor's home state. The U.S. Senate passed the CCPA by a considerable margin of 65-34. Democrats voted in favor of this bill but their votes were disingenuous. Immediately following the bill's passage, Senate Democrats worked as a team to implement a procedural maneuver to dismantle the bill by blocking its move into conference. We must not remain silent on this issue. In debating the CCPA, Senators Hillary Clinton (D-New York) and Dick Durbin (D-Ilinois) said that their constituents are unconcerned about the CCPA! But poll after poll contradicts these senators' floor statements. 80% of the American public supports the bill! Your action is needed immediately before the Senate recesses for the month of August! We have come too far to allow the Democrats to kill this important legislation that is overwhelmingly supported by Congress and by 80% of the American public. Call Senate Democrats and urge them to follow the bi-partisanship displayed by the margin of victory in both chambers and allow the CCPA to move to conference so the President can sign the bill into law. Dear Senator, As a concerned citizen and one of 500,000 members of Concerned Women for America, I urge you to lay aside partisan politics and allow the Child Custody Protection Act (CCPA), S.403, to move to conference. The CCPA is a bill that must be signed into law. It enjoys the support of 80% of the American public, and was passed by overwhelming margins in the House and in the Senate. The procedural maneuver used by Democrats to block the conferencing of this bill must be lifted so that the House and Senate can finalize language and put this bill on the President's desk! I urge you to follow the bi-partisanship displayed by the margin of victory in both chambers and move forward so the President can sign a conferenced bill into law. Thank you. Sincerely,
